Overview

As a Consultant Acute Physician, you join a forward-thinking NHS team delivering acute medical care across Medical Assessment, Short Stay and Ambulatory Care Units. You will work across Peterborough City Hospital with cross-site duties, contributing to a multidisciplinary, safety-focused environment. You’ll balance high-quality patient care with teaching, governance and service development in a ground-breaking care pathway landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, safe, compassionate care to acutely ill patients
  • Teach, train and supervise doctors, nurses and students
  • Lead and participate in clinical governance activities (audits, mortality review, appraisals)
  • Develop and implement evidence-based guidelines and pathways
  • Contribute to educational supervision and trainee support
  • Engage in cross-site, flexible scheduling including on-call duties
  • Support and evolve Same Day Emergency Care pathways and rapid assessment workflows
  • Participate in service planning and performance improvement initiatives
  • Negotiate and adapt job plans to balance service demand and personal flexibility

Key requirements

  • MBBS or equivalent; MRCP or General Medicine accreditation; Full GMC Registration
  • Completed training in General or Acute Medicine
  • Ability to provide expert clinical opinion across adult acute medicine
  • Calm under pressure and able to organize workload
  • Management experience or training; good IT skills; NHS structure awareness
  • Effective written and verbal communication; fluent in English
  • Teaching capability across grades of doctors and medical students
  • Participation in clinical governance activities; willingness to engage in audits
  • UK professional registration and ability to obtain sponsorship if needed
