Substantive Consultant in Neurophysiology in Penrith

Applications are invited from experienced Substantive Consultant to join the Speciality Medicine Collaborative, here at NCIC. The Neurology service is delivered across a number of outpatient's sites in North Cumbria as well as providing an in-reach service to the 2 acute hospitals. In addition to managing general Neurology referrals, the trust has developed a number of sub-specialties and would welcome Neurophysiologists seeking full or part-time hours.

Important roles for all Consultant posts include:

• The appointee will be expected to be responsible for the provision of the Neurophysiological Service to the North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust.
• Following consultation, to further develop the provision of the Clinical Neurophysiological Services.
• To carry out teaching duties as required and to take an active part in the Postgraduate Medical Education Programme and in the training programme for Clinical Physiologists.
• To take part in the North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust Clinical Governance programme.
• To provide professional and clinical supervision to the Clinical Neurophysiologists.
• To be involved in research where appropriate.
• To actively participate in the management of the services of the Directorate.

Please note: You must be on the Specialist Register in order to be eligible for appointment to this level of post.

Main duties of the job:

The posts will involve out-patient and in-patient consultations. Specific commitments would be agreed in negotiation with colleagues once appointed. There are a number of outpatients clinics that are delivered cross sites across the Trust when needed giving you the opportunity to see the wonderful landscape of North Cumbria. The department also operates A&G to GP and consultant colleagues alike within normal office hours.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

• Essential: Fully registration with the General Medical Council, MRCP or equivalent, Entry on the Specialist Register in Clinical Neurophysiology (or entry expected within 6 months from the date of interview).
• Desirable: MD or PhD degree, Special interest in any area of Neurophysiology.

Clinical Skills & Experience:

• Essential: Excellent communication skills with patients, colleagues, managers and other staff, Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients, Ability to work well with colleagues and within a team.
• Desirable: Experience of working with primary care/community colleagues, Evidence of personal contribution to service development in Neurophysiology.

Knowledge:

• Essential: Able to complete basic history taking and examination - physical and mental, Evidence based practice.
• Desirable: Specialist training courses relevant to post, Knowledge and experience of the application of information technology to Clinical Neurophysiology.

Personal Skills:

• Essential: Enthusiasm to develop the Neurophysiology services, Decisiveness/accountability, Interpersonal skills, Flexibility.

Organisation and Planning:

• Essential: Able to organise oneself and prioritise clinical need, Evidence of participation in audit, Experience & ability to work in multiprofessional teams.
• Desirable: Understanding of NHS, clinical governance & resource constraints, Information technology skills.

CPD:

• Essential: Evidence of continuing professional development.
• Desirable: Appropriate progression of career to date.

Research and Teaching:

• Essential: Ability to teach clinical skills to medical and nursing staff and other disciplines.
• Desirable: A commitment to and experience of teaching, Peer-reviewed journals in the last five years.

Other:

• Essential: Must be able to travel independently of public transport to multiple sites, Meets professional health requirements, Develop a culture that promotes equality and values diversity (Level 4).
