Overview
In this role you will lead the dispensary service to ensure safe, efficient and patient-focused pharmacy care across the PRUH. You’ll manage and develop the dispensary team, plan workloads, and drive service improvements to enhance safety and patient experience. You will work closely with hospital pharmacy leadership to align with Trust strategic ambitions, including sustainability and innovation. This is a hands-on leadership position in a busy hospital setting with a clear impact on patient care and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Plan and allocate work for dispensary and rotational staff to ensure delivery of services at PRUH
- Propose and implement changes to working practices to improve efficiency and safety
- Lead staff development and training for dispensary personnel during rotations
- Oversee stock control, stock returns, recycling, and safe disposal in coordination with Distribution Manager
- Ensure FP10s and prescription pads are secured, monitored, and re-ordered timely
- Ensure staff use of transactional equipment, pharmacy computer systems, and accurate data entry
- Facilitate clear two-way communications within the dispensary, Department, and Trust
- Provide operational oversight for Beckenham Beacon & Orpington dispensaries in the absence of the Principle Technician Patient Services
- Manage rota issuance and ensure the prescription tracking system is active and staff trained
- Deputise for the Principle Technician Patient Services as required
Key requirements
- Knowledge of national DoH/Regional Pharmacy Dispensary standards
- Post-registration hospital pharmacy experience with assessed competencies
- Experience in a hospital dispensary environment
- Strong leadership and team-management abilities
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Change management and adaptability
- Omnicell Controlled Drugs Cabinet handling
- Controlled drugs storage and dispensing procedures
- Pharmacy computer systems and accurate data entry
