Overview

In this Band 7 Occupational Therapy Team Lead role, you will lead a community OT service within Sandwell CMHT and oversee clinical care quality. You will work with cross‑team colleagues to coordinate care pathways and ensure efficient use of resources. You’ll stay clinically active, contributing to complex cases while guiding group work for service users with emotional needs. This is an opportunity to shape recovery‑oriented practice in a progressive NHS trust.

Responsibilities

  • Lead professional, operational, and co‑ordination duties for Occupational Therapy staff within the team
  • Ensure OT assessments and interventions meet quality standards and contribute to care pathways
  • Balance service activity with budget and performance targets
  • Contribute to business planning within the Adult Mental Health Division
  • Maintain active clinical practice and directly contribute to client care
  • Develop and evaluate occupational therapy group work for service users with complex emotional needs
  • Audit and evaluate OT outcome measures to support pathway approaches
  • Provide consultation and leadership to staff, fostering multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Work autonomously and within an experienced team to broaden skills and service delivery
  • Contribute to organizational recovery principles and continuous service improvement

Key requirements

  • Significant experience as a band 6/7 occupational therapist in mental health
  • Extensive experience in multidisciplinary working and building partnerships
  • Experience in quality improvement or service development; leading and supporting change
  • Excellent knowledge of occupational therapy practice in adult mental health settings
  • UK registration and current professional status
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise workloads under conflicting demands
  • Compassionate, empathetic and inclusive approach
  • Occupational therapy assessments and interventions in adult mental health
  • Group work development for service users with complex emotional needs
  • Auditing and evaluation of OT outcomes
