Overview
In this role you will provide a comprehensive gastroenterology service at Northampton General Hospital and help develop the department. You will work as part of the Gastroenterology team to deliver elective and emergency care, including endoscopy, inpatient and outpatient services, and on-call duties. You will contribute to teaching, governance, and audits while aligning with Trust priorities. This is an opportunity to shape specialist services and drive service improvement within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive gastroenterology service including inpatient, outpatient and endoscopy provision
- Demonstrate proficiency in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy (upper GI and colonoscopy)
- Participate in on-call rota for emergency GI and GI bleed support
- Contribute to teaching and Postgraduate Medical Education programmes and train trainees
- Attend MDT, departmental meetings, and governance sessions
- Lead and participate in clinical audits and regional/national audits as required
- Report critical incidents and support clinical governance activities
- Contribute to development of specialist services aligned to Trust priorities
Key requirements
- FRCOph or equivalent
- Completion of specialty training (or within 6 months of AAC)
- Full GMC registration
