Overview

In this Band 8a role you lead advanced clinical pharmacy services across Acute General Medicine, shaping medicines optimisation and service development. You will work within the Medicine and Urgent Care Pharmacy Team to drive patient flow, outcomes, and safe, cost-effective medicine use. You’ll supervise and mentor the pharmacy team, contribute to clinical pathways, and collaborate across primary, secondary and community care. A key hook is the opportunity to specialise in Cardiology, Respiratory, Diabetes, or Admissions Medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert clinical pharmacy services to acute medical patients
  • Lead medicines optimisation initiatives and service developments
  • Support prescribing and medicines governance activities
  • Contribute to development of clinical pathways and prescribing guidance
  • Collaborate across primary, secondary and community care interfaces
  • Develop and support innovative pharmacy practice, including prescribing and digital medicines management systems
  • Supervise, mentor and develop pharmacists, trainee pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
  • Participate in weekend, late duty and on-call services

Key requirements

  • Pharmacy Degree (MPharm or BPharm)
  • Independent prescribing or willingness to obtain
  • Registered with General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent
