Overview
In this part-time role within a large, multi-site GP practice, you will dispense medicines and appliances while adhering to standard procedures and NHS requirements. You’ll engage with patients, support compliance, and help maintain efficient dispensary operations. The position offers steady hours across Mowbray House and Hutton Rudby, with a focus on accuracy, safety, and patient service. This role suits someone who wants to contribute to a busy primary care dispensing team and develop in a clinical setting.
Responsibilities
- Dispense medicines and appliances following standard operating procedures
- Endorse prescriptions in line with NHS Prescription Services requirements
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new drugs and legislation
- Complete significant event forms and ensure timely submission
- Liaise with patients to promote compliance and provide guidance
- Process prescription requests and issue prepared prescriptions
- Operate stock control to minimize wastage and ensure continuity of supply
- Store drugs and refrigeration items per manufacturers’ instructions and monitor temperature records
- Maintain accurate dispensing records and communicate with community pharmacies as required
- Handle prescription charges, FP10 declarations, and financial transactions
- Provide efficient home delivery service when requested
- Keep full computerized records for all dispensing transactions
- Respond to drug alerts and action as required
- Answer telephone requests promptly and manage online prescription requests
- Ensure proper handling and storage of all items and maintain cleanliness of dispensary areas
Key requirements
- NVQ Level 2 in Dispensing (or equivalent)
- Good numeracy and literacy skills
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Experience in a dispensary, pharmacy, or healthcare environment
- Experience handling confidential patient information
- Full driving licence with access to a vehicle
