Overview
In this role you will support and strengthen the colorectal/general surgical service on the Isle of Wight, balancing clinical leadership with teaching and service development. You will work within the island’s surgical unit, contributing to a robust emergency and planned care pathway and participating in regional colorectal cancer care through MDT links. Responsibilities
- Provide a 10 programmed activities (PAs) per week plan including 1.5 SPAs with possible adjustments up to 2.5 SPAs
- Support the general surgical unit and contribute to emergency general surgery on-call provision (1:7)
- Deliver core general surgical skills to ensure excellent consultant-delivered care
- Participate in teaching, research, and clinical governance as part of the job plan
- Engage with regional colorectal cancer MDT pathways and potential joint operations with partner hospitals
Key requirements
- MBBS or equivalent
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register for General Surgery (or CESR/Certificate of Eligibility or within 6 months of CCT at interview)
- ATLS
- High level of clinical experience in colorectal, general and laparoscopic surgery
- Ability to take independent responsibility for patient care
- Desirable: Robotic colorectal fellowship, JAG accreditation for lower GI
- Desirable: Published audits or peer‑reviewed publications
- Desirable: Postgraduate teaching experience
- Teaching experience
