Overview
You will join the Freeman Hospital Cardiothoracic Unit as a PCI-focused Consultant, contributing to the interventional service and on-call PCI rota. You’ll work closely with cardiology, cardiac surgery and allied specialties to deliver expert interventional care and support ongoing education, research and audit. The role offers teaching, flexible working discussions and opportunities to develop special interests aligned with service needs. You will help shape a high-quality, collaborative cardiology service.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the consultant PCI on-call rota and perform urgent PCI in the cath lab for ACS (STEMI/NSTEMI)
- Lead elective PCI sessions and provide expert interventional cardiology opinions
- Provide inpatient care and supervise trainees in cardiology
- Contribute to multidisciplinary governance, audits and risk management
- Manage cardiac catheter lab sessions and optimize resource use
- Support Cardiology Clinic service management and liaison with other specialties
- Engage in teaching of medical students, foundation doctors and trainees
- Participate in research and activities within the NIHR portfolio
- Foster flexible service delivery and respond to patient needs with colleagues
Key requirements
- Full GMC Registration with licence to practise
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register within 6 months from AAC date
- Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent
- Evidence of PCI experience and ability to provide expert clinical opinion
- Ability to take independent responsibility for clinical care at a tertiary centre
- Commitment to teaching, audit and guideline development
- Experience in running a service and participating in management processes
- Collaborative team player
- Strong teaching and mentoring abilities
- Effective communication with patients and colleagues
- PCI/interventional cardiology expertise
- Experience with cardiac catheter lab operations
- Ability to supervise trainees in interventional procedures
