Overview

You will join a busy colorectal team to deliver high-quality elective and emergency colorectal surgery while expanding sub-specialty services. The role integrates clinical care with teaching, research, and audit within a multidisciplinary setting. You will contribute to service reconfiguration and regional collaborations, including mentorship and training opportunities. A commitment to flexible working supports patient-centered service delivery and staff wellbeing. Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality elective and emergency colorectal surgical care for the region
  • Develop and expand sub-specialty colorectal services within a multidisciplinary team
  • Communicate effectively with hospital and community teams
  • Contribute to efficient operation of elective and acute care and participate in national audits (e.g., NELA, NBOCAP, IMPACT)
  • Engage in research activities within the Newcastle Centre for Bowel Diseases
  • Lead and support teaching and training of medical students and doctors in training
  • Lead and develop educational courses via the Newcastle Surgical Training Centre (NSTC)
  • Support flexible service provision including potential evening/weekend work as required

Key requirements

  • Full GMC Registration
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register within 6 months of AAC date
  • FRCS in General Surgery
  • Team collaboration
  • Teaching and mentoring
  • Strong communication
  • JAG accreditation in colonoscopy
  • Experience in IBD
  • Pelvic floor disorders
