Overview

In this role you will provide clinical leadership and medical input within a multidisciplinary CAMHS team, guiding care for children and young people with complex mental health needs. You will contribute to clinical governance, manage risk, and support carers and families, working within the Getting More Help pathway. The role offers governance leadership, opportunities for service development, and teaching within a supportive consultant group. You will help shape high-quality, safe care and drive improvements in practice in collaboration with the MDT.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership and medical input to the team
  • Manage the patients under your care and supervise those seen by medically supervised colleagues
  • Co-lead clinical governance with other consultants
  • Triage and manage emergencies promptly; participate in Mental Health Act assessments when required
  • Collaborate within the MDT for clinical management, including risk assessment and carer/family needs assessments
  • Promote a Restorative Just and Learning Culture; participate in safety huddles and investigations; identify practice improvements
  • Ensure high-quality, safe care through robust clinical governance and team leadership

Key requirements

  • Medical degree
  • Full GMC registration
  • Eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register (or Specialist Registrar within 6 months of gaining CCT)
  • Eligible for Section 12 Approval (Mental Health Act)/ Approved Clinician or willing to apply
  • Experience of clinical work at SpR/SAS/Specialist or consultant level within last 3 years
  • Excellent knowledge and application of the Mental Health Act
  • Understanding of ethnic minority issues and culturally sensitive practice
