Overview
In this role you will lead Ophthalmology care with a focus on oculoplastics, working across Luton & Dunstable, Moorfields and Bedford Hospital. You will help shape safe, efficient pathways and support elective recovery and digitalisation of processes. You will collaborate with multi-professional teams to deliver high-quality eye care and supervise junior staff within a Trust-wide clinical governance framework. This is a senior post with a strong emphasis on MDT leadership, service development and CPD. You will be joining a high-performing, values-driven NHS Trust committed to patient care and staff wellbeing.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-standard clinical ophthalmology care across sub-specialties with a focus on oculoplastics
- Participate in clinical governance, audit, departmental meetings, journal clubs and medical grand rounds
- Lead CPD, appraisal and revalidation activities; provide senior support to the department
- Run outpatient clinics with supervisory support from junior staff; supervise MDT members
- Handle administrative duties including dictations, results follow-up, discharge letters (EDLs within 24 hours post-admission)
- Assess and manage diverse eye conditions; contribute to cross-site service delivery and MDT collaboration
- Support development of elective pathways, high-volume low-complexity lists and other patient-care improvements
- Engage in strategic planning for elective recovery and digitalisation of ophthalmology processes
Key requirements
- FRCOphth or equivalent
- Medical Degree
- One or more fellowships in Oculoplastic, Orbital and Lacrimal surgery
- Experience in the relevant ophthalmology subspecialty and substantial NHS experience
- Desirable: Consultant-level experience in Oculoplastics; managing complex oculoplastic patients as part of an MDT
