Overview

In this on-call role you provide strategic clinical leadership and medical assurance during major incidents and periods of high demand. You help the LAS Strategic Commander allocate and coordinate clinical resources across pre-hospital and hospital partners. You operate at the intersection of command cells, EOC, and partner agencies to shape the medical response and improve patient outcomes in London. This is a chance to apply senior clinical expertise to national-scale, time-critical challenges and public health events.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert medical advice and clinical assurance to the LAS Strategic Commander during major incidents and mass casualty events
  • Support strategic decision-making to ensure appropriate clinical resources are available and used effectively
  • Act as the senior clinical link between LAS, hospitals, NHS partners and other emergency services
  • Provide strategic clinical oversight within command structures (Command Cell, EOC)
  • Support management of clinical risk during major incidents and sustained operational pressure
  • Contribute to incident debriefs, lessons learnt, and post-incident reporting
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rota and provide timely clinical advice
  • Attend training and exercises to maintain operational readiness

Key requirements

  • Current UK professional registration
  • Previous experience in emergency medicine, critical care, pre-hospital care or acute specialties with ambulance exposure
  • Willingness to be available on-call and mobilise within 60 minutes of activation
  • Ability to provide expert medical management in pre-hospital and mass casualty contexts
  • Experience coordinating with multiple stakeholders (hospitals, NHS partners, other emergency services) during high-stakes incidents
