Overview
In this role you will contribute to the expansion and modernization of the Royal Eye Unit by delivering high-quality eye care. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to provide medical retina and emergency ophthalmology services, while supporting trainee development and service improvement. The post combines clinical delivery with teaching and supervision, across a busy eye unit serving 70,000 patients annually. This is a substantive, full-time position with a focus on independent outpatient practice and Acute Referral Clinic involvement, aligned to the Trust’s mission to raise standards of care.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical advice and treatment where appropriate
- Help develop the ophthalmology service in line with Trust policy
- Support and supervise trainees and junior staff
- Deliver efficient patient care across the clinical caseload
- Contribute to the Acute Referral Clinic (ARC) and out-patient services
- Engage in teaching and educational activities for junior medical staff and non-medical teams
Key requirements
- MRCS or equivalent
- Full GMC registration
- 4 years post-graduate training (full-time) with glaucoma and medical retina experience
- Evidence of CPD portfolio
- Competence in management of glaucoma, medical retina, and cataract patients
- Ability to manage general ophthalmology emergencies
- Strong leadership within a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Motivation and approachability

- Laser procedures (desirable)
