Overview
In this role you will provide specialist assessment and management for patients with complex diabetic and high-risk foot conditions within the Community Podiatry Service. You will manage an autonomous caseload, collaborate across community, primary and acute care, and support coordinated diabetic foot pathways. You will contribute to service development and supervise others, delivering evidence-based, person-centred care. This position offers meaningful impact in improving outcomes for people with diabetes at scale.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management for complex diabetic/high-risk foot conditions including wounds and peripheral vascular disease
- Manage an autonomous specialist caseload with evidence-based, person-centred treatment plans to reduce deterioration, ulcers, and amputation
- Collaborate across community, primary and acute care to support effective diabetic foot pathways
- Offer specialist advice to podiatry colleagues and multidisciplinary teams for complex cases
- Identify and escalate urgent cases to specialist diabetic foot services
- Contribute to service improvement through clinical audit, quality improvement, and service evaluation
- Support, supervise and mentor junior podiatrists and students
- Educate patients to understand their condition, risks, and self-management
- Maintain accurate clinical records and uphold governance and professional standards
Key requirements
- Podiatry degree qualification
- Registration with Health Professions Council (HPC)
- Certificate in Local Anaesthesia
- Evidence of post-graduate continued development
- Specialist study/training in Diabetes (SOCAP/COP/RCOP Diabetic Foot Module)
- Experience at Band 6 or above with high-risk diabetes caseloads in acute and community settings
- Experience of multidisciplinary and inter-agency working
- Strong interpersonal skills for liaising with diabetes specialists and teams
- Excellent communication
- Organisational and planning abilities
- In-depth knowledge of diabetic foot management and medical diabetes care
- Knowledge of NICE Diabetes guidelines and NSF in Diabetes
- Advanced clinical reasoning and decision-making
