Overview
In this role you will lead specialist clinical pharmacy services within a Care Group and contribute to medicines policy and governance across the Trust. You will supervise staff, support policy implementation, and ensure high-quality, safe pharmaceutical care. Your work will span ward-based clinical pharmacy, formulary governance, and cross-department collaboration to tailor services to the Care Group. You will also engage in education, audit, and research to advance practice and cost-effective prescribing.
Responsibilities
- deputise for the Principal Pharmacist, Clinical Governance and Medicines Policy
- lead development and implementation of evidence-based prescribing guidelines and protocols
- support clinical governance and medicines policy across the Trust
- participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds and antibiotic stewardship activities
- promote safe drug use and cost-effective prescribing
- manage new drug, non-formulary and Individual Funding Requests
- supervise, train and develop pharmacy staff
- provide education and training to healthcare professionals
- contribute to practice research, audits and service evaluations
- liaise with Patient Experience and other teams to improve medicines information and patient care
- participate in committees and governance activities at Trust level
- support homecare services and discharge planning as needed
- extend professional practice boundaries in collaboration with the Principal Pharmacist
Key requirements
- MPharm (Masters Degree) and registered as a Pharmacist with GPhC
- Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent
- Registered Independent Prescriber or willingness to complete
- essential post-registration hospital pharmacy experience
- broad specialist clinical knowledge relevant to area of practice
- awareness of clinical governance frameworks and relevant regulations
