Overview
In this Specialist Biomedical Scientist role, you contribute to a high-quality clinical microbiology service within the Department of Clinical Microbiology at King's Mill Hospital. You will perform bacteriological, serological, and molecular investigations, delivering accurate and timely diagnostic results to support patient management. You work both independently and with a multidisciplinary team to interpret organisms and antimicrobial susceptibility, shaping clinical decisions. The role offers ongoing CPD and a clear path through the IBMS Specialist Portfolio, within a patient-centered NHS environment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct bacteriological, serological and molecular microbiology investigations
- Identify and interpret clinically significant microorganisms
- Interpret antimicrobial susceptibility testing to inform patient management
- Produce accurate, timely diagnostic results for clinicians
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support infection management
Key requirements
- HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist
- IBMS Certificate of Competence
- Biomedical Science Degree (BSc) or equivalent
- Computer literacy
- Continued Professional Development (CPD) participation
- Significant specialist training in a Clinical Microbiology laboratory
- Experience in serology and molecular techniques (desirable)
- UK Registration/registration current
