Overview
In this role you lead a Community Mental Health Centre, ensuring safe, high-quality, evidence-based care while driving governance, performance and financial outcomes. You will work with the local management team to deliver Trust objectives and integrate care across partner organisations. The position combines clinical leadership with operational responsibility to improve service delivery and staff wellbeing. You will shape care standards and KPI outcomes, contributing to a strategic improvement agenda within a renowned mental health trust.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day operational management of the centre, including quality, safety, flow, workforce, and finances.
- Lead by example to ensure high-standard clinical care and achievement of KPIs and quality metrics.
- Promote equity of access within an anti-racist care framework.
- Optimize clinical flow and Length of Stay to reduce delays and enable discharge readiness.
- Govern quality and safety processes (investigations, audits, PSIRF, learning responses, actions).
- Develop action plans aligned with policy and Trust expectations; co-lead care standards evaluation via audits.
- Contribute to Trust-wide care strategy and local implementation; monitor progress.
- Develop and implement systems to monitor and improve care quality and MDT pathways, including KPIs for community services.
- Provide clinical advisory support and model best practice; implement new policies and NICE guidance.
- Ensure patient safety is central to service planning and delivery.
- Foster patient, family, and carer involvement in service development.
- Coordinate demand and capacity and optimise clinical flow within the Trust's system.
- Embed digital health tools and present data sessions to support performance understanding.
- Use real-time data to drive daily decisions and support proactive health promotion.
- Embed service developments into clinical practice and promote patient choice.
- Utilise quality scorecards and assurance frameworks; hold regular performance meetings.
- Recruit and develop staff to meet leadership standards; provide clinical supervision where appropriate.
- Contribute to research, development and quality improvement projects; apply improvement methodologies.
- Review patient safety incidents, complaints, PSIRF responses and care outcomes; implement improvements.
- Collaborate with Infection Control and OCS to maintain hygiene standards; oversee medical devices and equipment.
- Ensure staff registration, mandatory training, and competency across multidisciplinary teams.
- Monitor budgets, analyse costs, and support financial sustainability and cost improvement programs.
Key requirements
- Registered Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker (DipSW/CQSW) or Psychology/ allied profession with degree-level education or relevant clinical experience
- Extensive post-registration professional development
- Clinical and operational experience in mental health services
- Experience setting, monitoring and evaluating standards of care
- Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and workforce development
- Senior management/clinical level experience with collaboration and leadership of team leaders
- Experience in audits, investigations and using data to drive improvement
- Experience with quality improvement, transformation or research projects
- Partnership working with statutory/voluntary agencies
- Knowledge of PSIRF, quality and safety processes, and national standards
- Experience managing budgets and performance
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and develop culturally sensitive practice
