Overview

As a Band 7 Pharmacist, you will drive safe, patient-centred outpatient pharmacy services. You will clinically screen and review outpatient prescriptions, provide medicines counselling, and support home delivery and out-of-hours collection. You will monitor performance metrics, streamline processes, and lead on quality improvement while deputising for seniors and shaping a responsive outpatient service. You will collaborate with colleagues to enhance patient experience and service quality.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical screening and checking of outpatient and specialist prescriptions (e.g., HIV, chemotherapy, paediatric)
  • Patient counselling and medicines advice for safe use
  • Monitor KPIs, prescription turnaround times, and the Prescription Tracking System (PTS) to resolve delays
  • Manage Outpatient Pharmacy mailbox and prioritise queries
  • Provide staff support, training, SOP development, and quality improvement activities
  • Lead pharmacy practices in line with professional guidance; deputise for senior Pharmacists when required
  • Participate in late duty, seven-day, bank holiday, and on-call rotas
  • Contribute to improving patient experience and service quality using feedback and performance data
  • Ensure compliance with GPhC standards and professional/legal obligations
  • Support development of a responsive, high-quality Outpatient Pharmacy Service

Key requirements

  • Post GPhC registration experience
  • Understanding of Good Clinical Practice and Good Manufacturing Practice in relation to clinical trials
  • Clinical experience in a range of clinical specialties
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Good organisational skills and ability to motivate self and others
  • Ability to manage change
  • UK hospital experience in outpatient or community pharmacy (desirable)
  • Pharmacy computer system familiarity (CMM/JAC) (desirable)
  • Excellent communication

  • IT literate
  • Familiarity with CMM (formerly JAC) Pharmacy Computer System
  • Use of Prescription Tracking System (PTS)
