Overview
As a Band 7 Pharmacist, you will drive safe, patient-centred outpatient pharmacy services. You will clinically screen and review outpatient prescriptions, provide medicines counselling, and support home delivery and out-of-hours collection. You will monitor performance metrics, streamline processes, and lead on quality improvement while deputising for seniors and shaping a responsive outpatient service. You will collaborate with colleagues to enhance patient experience and service quality.
Responsibilities
- Clinical screening and checking of outpatient and specialist prescriptions (e.g., HIV, chemotherapy, paediatric)
- Patient counselling and medicines advice for safe use
- Monitor KPIs, prescription turnaround times, and the Prescription Tracking System (PTS) to resolve delays
- Manage Outpatient Pharmacy mailbox and prioritise queries
- Provide staff support, training, SOP development, and quality improvement activities
- Lead pharmacy practices in line with professional guidance; deputise for senior Pharmacists when required
- Participate in late duty, seven-day, bank holiday, and on-call rotas
- Contribute to improving patient experience and service quality using feedback and performance data
- Ensure compliance with GPhC standards and professional/legal obligations
- Support development of a responsive, high-quality Outpatient Pharmacy Service
Key requirements
- Post GPhC registration experience
- Understanding of Good Clinical Practice and Good Manufacturing Practice in relation to clinical trials
- Clinical experience in a range of clinical specialties
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Good organisational skills and ability to motivate self and others
- Ability to manage change
- UK hospital experience in outpatient or community pharmacy (desirable)
- Pharmacy computer system familiarity (CMM/JAC) (desirable)
