Overview
In this role you will act as deputy head of Financial Planning and Strategy, leading and supporting the team to deliver its core functions. You will oversee financial modelling to forecast the impact of policy changes on the Trust’s finances and strategy, and you will communicate projections to the CFO, Executive, Board and regulators. You will develop and obtain approvals for high-quality financial plans, and you will advise senior leaders on capital, efficiency, and investment decisions. This role sits at the heart of strategic financial planning to support sustainable healthcare delivery and transformation.
Responsibilities
- Lead development and maintenance of the long-term financial model capturing regulator policies, activity, workforce, and strategic initiatives
- Present and explain long-term forecasts to CFO, Executive, Board and regulators
- Develop and submit detailed operational plans to NHS England on time and in the correct format
- Triangulate finance, activity and workforce plans before NHS England submissions
- Advise senior leaders on strategic financial changes and cross-functional impacts
- Provide financial input for service reconfigurations and major business cases with robust financial assumptions
- Deputise for Head of Financial Planning and Strategy and lead the team in their absence
- Support wider departmental work and cross-team collaboration
Key requirements
- CCAB or CIMA fully qualified / professional chartered accountancy qualification
- Degree level or equivalent experience
- Expert knowledge of financial and accounting procedures including NHS policies
- Evidence of CPD related to NHS finance and national accounting standards
- Experience developing or maintaining a complex financial model
- Significant senior-level financial management experience
- Staff management experience including recruitment, objective setting, appraisals and performance management
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strategic thinking with ability to translate complex data for non-finance stakeholders
- Collaborative and cross-functional team orientation
