Overview
In this Band 7 rotational role, you will contribute to medicines optimisation across four hospital sites within Barts Health. You work closely with multidisciplinary teams to standardise policies, ensure safe medication practices, and support ward-based care. You will assess patients’ own drugs, reconcile medicines, counsel patients, and coordinate discharge supplies, while engaging in research activities. The role offers exposure to a broad clinical spectrum and development through nine-month rotations, aligned with the department’s mission to deliver harm-free, high-quality care.
Responsibilities
- Ward-based medicines optimisation and patient care
- Assess and reconcile patients’ medicines
- Ward-level dispensing and discharge medication coordination
- Counsel patients on their medicines
- Dispenser duties in the pharmacy
- Collaborate with ward teams to develop services
- Contribute to research, QI, or audit activities
- Support standardisation of medicine policies and procedures
Key requirements
- Post-registration acute hospital clinical experience
- Experience in multidisciplinary team care
- Experience in research, quality improvement, or audits
- Experience driving service improvements or change
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Accurate documentation and attention to detail
- Ability to follow written procedures under pressure
- Numeracy and complex calculation skills
- Planning, prioritisation, time management, and ability to work under pressure
- IT literate with Microsoft Office and data entry proficiency
- Ability to communicate complex information to health professionals, patients and carers
- Experience delivering staff training
- GPhC-registered pharmacist
- MPharm or equivalent
- Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy/Pharmacy Practice or equivalent
