Overview
As Resident Medical Officer you will provide on-call medical cover at Cygnet Churchill, an inpatient men’s mental health facility. You’ll assess new admissions, oversee physical and mental health care, and coordinate with on-call consultants to manage risks and treatments. The role involves supervising training, ensuring timely handovers, and collaborating with MDT members, GPs, and relatives. This is a fixed on-call routine with weekend shifts, focusing on high-quality patient care and professional development. You will contribute to a patient-centered, governance-driven environment with meaningful clinical impact.

Responsibilities
- Assess new admissions with thorough history, examination, and physical checks
- Ensure integrated physical and mental health reviews with nursing staff on call
- Perform ECGs and blood tests as part of assessments
- Conduct risk and mental health evaluations for patients
- Liaise with on-call Consultant Psychiatrists for advice and decisions
- Prescribe and review medications with Consultant Psychiatrist on call
- Receive weekly supervision to support training needs and PDP
- Provide timely handovers to Responsible Clinician and MDT members
Key requirements
- Fully GMC registered
- MBBS (or equivalent) qualification
- Excellent clinical decision making and sound judgement
- Preferably experienced in Psychiatry
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
- Strong communication skills and ability to document medical notes clearly
