Overview

In this role you support a busy GP practice by proactively contacting patients overdue for health reviews, screenings and vaccinations to improve access and uptake of NHS services. You will work with clinical and administrative teams to support recall campaigns, book and manage appointments, and update records, driving better health outcomes. The position offers hands-on experience in a fast-paced primary care setting with opportunities to contribute to quality improvement and patient-centred care. You will engage with patients with empathy to explain the importance of care and ensure timely access, with a clear impact on the community.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively contact patients by phone, text or approved methods to promote attendance at reviews and appointments
  • Book, rearrange and manage appointments per practice procedures
  • Explain the purpose and importance of reviews, screenings, and vaccinations clearly
  • Accurately record patient interactions and update records in the practice system
  • Support delivery of recall and call/recall programmes across multiple clinical areas
  • Monitor appointment uptake and follow up with patients as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with NHS information governance requirements
  • Contribute to practice performance targets and quality improvement initiatives
  • Attend team meetings, training sessions and performance reviews to support development
  • Undertake other administrative duties as requested by the Business Manager

Key requirements

  • Previous experience in a primary care environment with understanding of GP practice operations and patient services
  • Desirable: familiarity with EMIS Web or other NHS clinical systems
  • Understanding of Long Term Condition management and recall processes in primary care
  • Knowledge of NHS screening and immunisation programmes
  • GCSE/A-Level
  • Experience managing patient appointments and recall programmes
  • Experience undertaking high-volume outbound calling
  • Ability to explain healthcare information clearly
  • Experience using EMIS Web or similar clinical systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to engage confidently with diverse patients
  • Strong telephone manner and active listening
  • EMIS Web or similar NHS clinical systems
  • Data entry and general IT proficiency
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office applications (desirable)
