Overview

As a Consultant Gastroenterologist, you will deliver consultant-led gastroenterology services and lead clinical care across CHEC’s expanding community network. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality outpatient care and advanced GI endoscopy, contributing to service growth and strategic direction. The role combines clinical practice with governance, audit, and pathway development to improve patient outcomes in the NHS partnership. This is an opportunity to shape community gastroenterology delivery in the South region and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering consultant-led Gastroenterology outpatient clinics
  • Assessing, diagnosing and managing referred patients
  • Undertaking diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower GI endoscopy procedures
  • Delivering a minimum of two endoscopy lists per week
  • Providing expert clinical advice and treatment recommendations
  • Supporting growth, delivery and development of CHEC's community Gastroenterology services
  • Supporting the Clinical Director in development, leadership and strategic direction of CHEC's Gastroenterology services
  • Leading and contributing to clinical governance, audit, service evaluation and quality improvement initiatives
  • Supporting implementation of innovative clinical pathways and service developments
  • Providing clinical leadership and expertise to multidisciplinary teams
  • Supporting service delivery across CHEC sites within the South region when required
  • Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with organisational policies and GMC standards
  • Working in accordance with CHEC clinical protocols, policies and values

Key requirements

  • A proven track record of delivering high-quality Gastroenterology services
  • Significant experience in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy
  • Excellent clinical judgement and decision-making skills
  • Commitment to excellent patient outcomes and experiences
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of clinical governance, audit and continuous quality improvement
  • Interest in service development and innovation
  • Ability to provide clinical leadership and contribute strategically to service growth
