Overview
In this role you will support the Specialist Lead MSK Podiatrist in steering the musculoskeletal aspects of podiatric care within the Foot Health Service. You will provide expert knowledge and act as a training resource for AHPs, GPs and other colleagues, ensuring care aligns with national and local policies. You will contribute to comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and management of foot and lower limb conditions in a primary care setting, while exemplifying quality care and professional standards. This position offers an opportunity to shape MSK podiatry services and support service-wide improvement and education.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and lead the musculoskeletal component of care within the Foot Health Service
- Ensure service delivery aligns with national/local policies and expected results
- Act as a role model for high-quality patient care
- Serve as an expert training/resource hub for AHPs, GPs and other health and social care colleagues
- Oversee comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of foot deformities and pathologies
- Collaborate with an experienced team to deliver specialist podiatry care in a primary care setting
Key requirements
- Degree or diploma in Podiatry recognised for HCPC registration
- Current HCPC registration as a Podiatrist
- Postgraduate qualification or specialist training in musculoskeletal podiatry (desirable)
- Management or leadership training (desirable)
- Advanced clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning and care-planning skills for complex MSK foot/ankle conditions
- Ability to organise and prioritise a complex workload with autonomy and under pressure
- Substantial post-registration podiatry experience in MSK care (essential)
- Desirable: staff supervision, student education, rotation support or competency assessment
- Advanced specialist knowledge of MSK podiatry and complex foot/ankle management
- Knowledge of national/local podiatry strategy, guidance, standards and legislation
- Understanding of Trust Values and flexible to work across Hackney community sites
- Clear and compassionate communication of complex information
- Strong diagnostic reasoning and clinical judgment
- Autonomy and effective workload management
- Musculoskeletal podiatry expertise
- Diagnostic ultrasound (extended scope)
- Injection therapy techniques (local anaesthetic, corticosteroids)
