Overview
In this role you will provide specialist paediatric respiratory care with a strong sleep medicine focus, delivering inpatient and outpatient services across the Royal Brompton and Evelina London sites. You will contribute to a developing sleep service, manage long-term ventilation patients, and participate in teaching, research, and service development to improve child health outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Provide consultant-level clinical services for paediatric respiratory patients in line with clinical standards
- Manage inpatient care on Sky Ward, Mountain ward, and Snow Leopard (long-term ventilation and sleep unit)
- Respond to acute second opinions from NICU, PICU and other departments; participate in weekend ward rounds
- Oversee home sleep study reporting and continue weekly sleep-related activities for Brompton patients
- Coordinate outpatient clinics at Brompton (general paediatric respiratory; long-term ventilation sleep clinic) and occasional video clinics
- Liaise with sleep services at Evelina and sleep physiology teams across RBH and Evelina sites; manage long-term ventilation patients
- Contribute to administrative and management needs of the Paediatric Respiratory service within the Trust
- Develop and refine flexible bronchoscopy capabilities (with available support)
- Engage in teaching and training for undergraduates and postgraduates; support research aligned to the Trust strategy
- Pursue CPD, professional development, audit, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice
Key requirements
- MB BS or equivalent
- Eligibility for specialist registration in paediatrics and paediatric respiratory medicine
- MRCPH or recognized equivalent
- Trained in paediatric respiratory medicine
- National Grid training in paediatric respiratory medicine (or to be completed within 6 months)
- Adequate training in child safeguarding
- Participation in a CME program
- Paediatric advanced life support training
- Desirable: trained in paediatric sleep medicine
- Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Teamwork and collaboration
- Commitment to teaching and training
- Flexible bronchoscopy (training available)
- Sleep study reporting and Sleep medicine practice
- IT literacy
