As a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine, you will lead high-quality neurological rehabilitation for spinal cord injury patients across a busy DGH and a tertiary setting. You will work within a multidisciplinary team spanning Hillingdon Hospital and Imperial College Healthcare Trust to ensure smooth patient transitions from tertiary to secondary and community care. The role offers opportunities to influence pathways, participate in network-wide rehabilitation initiatives, and help develop the regional spinal cord injury service. Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality patient-focused care for spinal cord injury across all ages and etiologies
- Diagnose and medically manage spinal injuries, including spasticity and pain control
- Assess rehabilitation potential and prognosis to guide care
- Define rehabilitation needs and refer to appropriate services
- Coordinate care with medical, nursing, and therapy teams
- Communicate with families and manage expectations
- Collaborate with regional spinal cord injury centres and contribute to clinical discussions
- Support education for spinal cord injury staff and promote cohesive education programs
- Active multidisciplinary involvement in the SCI network
- Offer expert advice on assessment, care planning, outcomes, and evaluation
- Drive improvements in individualized outcomes for patients and carers
- Promote high standards of care through collaboration and expert guidance
- Monitor standards and outcomes across the network to demonstrate improved service
- Involve service users and carers in feedback, audits, and coproduction
- Contribute to SCI education and training program evaluation and delivery
- Work with NHSE and NWL ICB to develop Hillingdon Specialist Rehabilitation Service as a spinal rehabilitation provider
- Provide strategic clinical insight with colleagues to implement spinal cord injury pathways and ensure clinical standards
Key requirements
- Full GMC Registration with License to Practice
- MRCP or equivalent
- Inclusion on GMC Specialist Register for Neurorehabilitation/Neurology/General Internal Medicine or within six months of CCT in Geriatrics and General Internal Medicine
- Recent clinical experience in Neurorehabilitation/Neurology
