Overview
In this role you will join the obstetric on-call team to deliver high-quality care for women with complex pregnancies, with optional fetal medicine components aligned to your interests. You will manage medical comorbidities such as diabetes and hypertension within a tertiary obstetrics setting and contribute to service development. The position offers flexibility to focus on maternal medicine or fetal medicine depending on service needs and your expertise. This is an opportunity to impact both patient care and regional obstetric services at a major teaching hospital.
Responsibilities
- Support smooth operation of obstetrics and gynaecology clinical services
- Maintain strong inter-staff relations across teams
- Coordinate clinical and quality audits and address patient complaints promptly
- Ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance with Data Protection Act
- Actively participate in risk management
- Facilitate departmental and clinical service review meetings
- Develop and update clinical service policies and protocols based on evidence
- Liaise with GPs and regional referring hospitals to raise department profile
Key requirements
- Full GMC registration or eligibility for full registration
- Specialist Register or eligible within 3 months of closing date
- MRCOG or equivalent
- RCOG ATSM/SITM in maternal medicine
- Experience in management of diabetes in pregnancy
- Evidence of delivering high-risk obstetrics at tertiary level
- Ability to take full independent clinical responsibility
- Experience developing evidence-based obstetric services (audit/guidelines/service development)
- Leadership skills

- Good interpersonal skills and caring attitude
- Fetal diagnostics (desirable)
- Delivery of maternal medicine clinics independently
- On-call consultant-level responsiveness
