Overview

In this role you lead the CAMHS Single Point of Access, guiding a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, responsive mental health support for under-18s. You will balance clinical input with operational management, shaping a growing, innovative service and building internal and external interfaces. You’ll supervise staff, drive service development, and ensure effective triage, care pathways, and data monitoring. Responsibilities

  • Manage daily running of the CAMHS SPA team and support the Clinical Lead in service operations
  • Provide clinical and managerial supervision, coaching, and staff development
  • Contribute to training and clinical group supervision across the wider all-age SPA
  • Handle high-quality triage: respond to calls, prioritise, and determine care pathways
  • Refer and liaise with CAMHS local teams and signpost to third-sector services when needed
  • Maintain accurate patient records in System One and monitor data for SPA performance
  • Support long-term strategic development of the SPA service
  • Screen and manage emails in the CAMHS SPA inbox
  • Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders (core/urgent CAMHS, GP, Police, LAS)
  • Escalate difficult calls and manage risk to patient safety
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding and child protection requirements
  • Participate in ongoing service evaluation and governance processes

Key requirements

  • Relevant professional qualification in a psychological/therapeutic field, mental health nursing, or mental health social work
  • Substantial experience in child and adolescent mental health
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and Children Act protocols
  • Experience with complex mental health assessments
  • Strong communication, planning, and recording skills
  • Ability to supervise a multidisciplinary team
  • Current UK professional registration
  • Empathy and ability to relate to young people and families
  • Resilience under pressure and deadline-driven
  • Collaborative mindset and partnership working
  • IT systems proficiency (System One)
  • Risk assessment and management
  • Clinical governance understanding
