Overview
In this role you will lead and expertly advise on R&D finance, supporting quality decision-making through strong analytical support. You will integrate into the hospital group finance team, driving financial recovery and delivering robust reporting and analytics for R&D. You will shape policies, systems and processes to manage R&D income and expenditure efficiently, coordinating with senior stakeholders and external funders. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to impact research finance at scale.

Responsibilities
- Advise on complex R&D accounting and queries across directorates; liaise with Finance Directors on complex matters
- Ensure adherence to rules around R&D income/expenditure by senior managers and finance staff
- Develop and implement financial strategies and R&D Finance Policy for income management and recovery
- Design and oversee systems and procedures for effective management and recovery of R&D income
- Lead development and implementation of policies and SOPs for research finance
- Drive continuous improvement of R&D finance processes, reporting, policies and SOPs
- Oversee R&D financial reporting to Director, CFO, and external funders; coordinate NIHR funding reporting
- Lead input to annual/quarterly R&D returns and mandated reporting in line with deadlines
Key requirements
- Post-qualification analytical financial management experience
- Experience of managing teams including management accounting
- Budget setting in large and complex organisations
- Producing financial monitoring reports to senior management/directors
- Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Word for presenting financial information
- Knowledge of financial systems; IFRS experience
- Experience in Research Finance and managing multiple funding streams
- Strong reconciliation and ledger transparency experience
