Overview
In this role you will lead advanced orthotics assessment, treatment, and management, acting as a clinical expert for patients and fellow clinicians. You will oversee complex cases, support service development, and drive audits, research, and training to improve orthotics care. You’ll work under consultant supervision when needed and help the service meet 18-week targets. The post emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration and strategic service leadership to deliver high-quality rehabilitation.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Orthotics Team in specialist assessment, treatment and management of complex presentations
- Manage a diverse caseload while balancing clinical priorities and service delivery
- Lead, supervise, and participate in audits, research, and service improvement activities
- Provide training and contribute to service development of clinical practice
- Communicate effectively with patients, carers, and multidisciplinary teams to optimise rehabilitation outcomes
- Lead multidisciplinary meetings and case conferences, resolving complex issues
- Provide day-to-day leadership, staff supervision, appraisal, development, and involvement in recruitment
- Promote orthotics awareness through presentations and partnership work
- Support implementation of evidence-based practice and change management principles
Key requirements
- Degree or diploma in Physiotherapy
- HCPC registration
- Evidence of CPD including recent postgraduate training in the clinical speciality
- Substantial post-registration experience in orthotics across settings
- Experience in staff management and leadership
- Interdisciplinary working and team/service development
- Understanding of current legislation as it applies to Orthotics
- Participation in mandatory training and in-service training
- Willingness to travel and work across sites and extended hours
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Empathy and sensitivity when supporting patients and families
