Overview
You will lead the inpatient and outpatient Orthoptic Stroke Service within the Royal Eye Unit, working in a multidisciplinary environment to deliver and improve specialist orthoptic care after stroke.
You will contribute to service development, clinical audit, teaching and training, and deputise for the Head Orthoptist when needed.
This role combines advanced clinical work with education and leadership across the team.
You will shape patient care pathways and mentor junior staff while collaborating with consultants and other professionals.

Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose and formulate treatment plans for children and adults in the Orthoptic Department per BIOS standards
- Lead the Orthoptic Stroke Service across inpatient and outpatient settings
- Support ophthalmologists with comprehensive orthoptic assessments before/after squint surgery and Botulinum toxin treatment
- Lead education, training and development of undergraduate Orthoptic students (Clinical Tutor) and contribute to staff training
- Mentor junior staff and provide professional supervision and guidance
- Contribute to service development, clinical audit, quality improvement and governance
- Deputise for the Head Orthoptist when required
- Prioritise and triage electronic referrals to paediatric and adult motility services
- Key requirements
- Degree or Diploma recognition by BIOS and HCPC registration
- Clinical tutor qualification
- Stroke (STARS) competencies
- Significant post graduate Orthoptic experience
- Clinical teaching experience
- Experience working with stroke patients
- Experience in single handed clinics
- Experience with patients with additional needs
- Experience in ocular motility clinics, paediatric clinics and neurology clinics
