Overview

In this role you will support Technical Leads across specialist histopathology sections, working in a busy, accredited laboratory. You will contribute to regional guideline development and provide expert technical service, training, and supervision. This position offers development opportunities within an NHS pathology partnership and supports CPD participation. You will work as part of a collaborative team to deliver high-quality cellular pathology services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and co-ordinate specialist clinical technical services to patients, including research and audit specimens
  • Manage day-to-day operations of a laboratory section under a line manager
  • Contribute to professional clinical technical service as part of the department
  • Provide training and supervision to staff within the section
  • Participate in the extended BMS role of histology specimen dissection and oversee designated cut-up or routine sections
  • Deliver advanced technical support and supervision to meet trust and national standards

Key requirements

  • MSc in Biomedical Sciences
  • An honours degree or equivalent in a biological science
  • HCPC Registration
  • IBMS Specialist Diploma in Histology or equivalent experience
  • Equivalent experience at masters level
  • Desirable: Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences
  • Desirable: IBMS Diploma of Expert or Advanced Practice in Histological Dissection
  • Proven post-HCPC experience in the relevant discipline
  • Excellent knowledge of histology and quality management systems
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • PC word processing
  • Spreadsheet and database software
  • IQC and/or EQA review
