Overview

In this role you will provide strategic leadership for Health Protection and Vaccinations & Immunisations within the Population Health Service, aligning with the Public Health Directorate's goals. You will oversee service development, planning and delivery across Health Protection and Vaccination programmes, while collaborating with partner organisations to support North Wales public health aims. The post offers a chance to shape regional health protection strategies and emergency preparedness. It is a senior, cross-site leadership position with a focus on impact, transformation and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic oversight of Health Protection and Vaccinations & Immunisations services
  • Coordinate planning, development and delivery across Health Protection and Vaccination programmes
  • Contribute population health advice to Local Authorities across North Wales
  • Support strategic planning and delivery through partner organisations and Public Services Boards
  • Negotiate and implement further work areas with the Executive Director of Public Health

Key requirements

  • GMC Specialist Registration in Public Health Medicine, Infectious Diseases Medicine, or Medical Microbiology OR UK Public Health (Specialist) Register, or eligibility within 6 months of CCT
  • Minimum 6 months training in Health Protection (MFPH, MRCPath, or MRCP)
  • Applicants must meet CPD requirements set by relevant colleges/boards
  • Experience in senior leadership within a large, complex organisation and cross-agency collaboration
  • Excellent communication (oral and written)
  • Interpersonal, influencing and negotiation skills
  • Strategic leadership and change management
  • Understanding of epidemiology and statistics
  • Health protection and public health practice knowledge
  • Quality improvement and evidence-based practice
