Overview
As a Consultant Psychiatrist within the Specialist Community Mental Health Team (SCMHT) in Wigan, you will provide consultative and supervisory leadership to a multidisciplinary service. You will manage a caseload around 330, delivering assessment, diagnosis and complex care planning in the community and clinic settings. You will lead clinical decision making within the MDT and drive service priorities in line with national guidance, including educational supervision for trainees. This role offers meaningful impact by shaping community-based care for adults with severe mental illness and contributing to service transformation efforts within a supportive, collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Undertake assessments of referrals/admissions
- Diagnose and formulate management plans for complex presentations
- Manage treatment-resistant and complex cases
- Assess and manage risk (vulnerability, suicide, health and safety, harm to others)
- Prepare and attend Mental Health Review Tribunal and Managers' Hearings reports
- Collaborate with MDT and external partners; work with partner psychiatrists
- Lead clinical decision making within the MDT
- Develop service clinical priorities in line with guidance and standards
- Engage in service transformation programs
- Provide clinical supervision for trainees in core psychiatry
