NHS Resolution is seeking an exceptional senior leader to join us as Director of Corporate Affairs. This significant executive role is central to how we protect our reputation, strengthen corporate governance and assurance, shape strategic planning and build effective engagement across the health and justice systems. NHS Resolution provides expertise to the NHS on resolving concerns fairly, sharing learning for improvement and preserving resources for patient care. The Director of Corporate Affairs will help us deliver this purpose by ensuring that governance, communications, risk, strategy and assurance arrangements are joined up, effective and focused on impact.
Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will lead the Corporate Affairs directorate, bringing together policy, strategy and communications, corporate governance, and knowledge and information management. You will work closely with the Chair, Board, Senior Management Team and external partners, providing trusted advice, constructive challenge and clear leadership on complex, sensitive and high-profile matters.
Main duties of the job
As Director of Corporate Affairs, you will provide strategic leadership across communications and stakeholder engagement, corporate strategy, planning, performance and risk, corporate governance, board effectiveness and assurance, and knowledge and information management. You will ensure the organisations expertise is translated into learning, insight and influence, and that corporate governance and assurance support effective decision-making and delivery. This role is critical to ensuring that the Board and its Committees receive effective support and assurance; that organisational strategy is translated into clear business plans, measurable outcomes and delivery priorities; and that performance, risk and assurance frameworks operate effectively.
You will also play a central role in protecting and enhancing NHS Resolutions reputation, ensuring internal and external communications support organisational objectives, and developing stakeholder relationships that maximise our influence, impact and contribution across the health and justice systems. You will lead key relationships with DHSC sponsor teams, NHS bodies, arms-length bodies, professional bodies, indemnity scheme members and strategic suppliers. Internally, you will work across all directorates and corporate functions, ensuring that planning, governance, risk, performance and communications are joined up and aligned to organisational priorities.
About us

What you'll bring
We are looking for a senior leader with substantial experience across corporate affairs, governance and assurance, strategy, communications, planning, performance and risk. You will bring excellent judgement, strong influencing skills and the confidence to operate effectively with executive teams, Boards, Committees, sponsors and senior stakeholders. You will be an outstanding communicator, able to provide clear advice on complex and sensitive issues, shape organisational narrative, and support senior leaders in managing reputation, engagement and delivery. You will also have a proven ability to lead teams, develop capability, manage resources and support continuous improvement in a complex environment.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of public sector governance, accountability and assurance, ideally within an arms-length body, NHS or similarly complex public service environment. You will be committed to inclusive leadership, professional standards and NHS Resolutions values: Professional, Expert, Ethical and Respectful.
Why join us?
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to an organisation with a clear public purpose and a significant role in supporting the NHS. You will help shape how NHS Resolution plans, governs, communicates and learns, working with talented colleagues and senior partners to support fair resolution, improvement and the effective use of resources for patient care.
