Overview
In this role you will lead the oncology medicines service, acting as the main clinical pharmacist for Cancer Services. You will deliver comprehensive medicines management for Oncology and Haematology patients across wards, day units and clinics, including SACT screening and safety checks. You will coach and line-manage a team, ensure compliance with policy and formulary, and drive service development and cost-effective care. Responsibilities
- Lead specialist clinical pharmacy service for Oncology and Haematology with professional leadership support
- Deliver medicines management across ward-based and day unit settings
- Clinically screen SACT for adult and paediatric patients across day units and outpatient settings
- Teach, supervise and develop pharmacists, technicians and students in Oncology/Haematology
- Line manage allocated pharmacists; oversee appraisals and development
- Ensure staff training and compliance with legislation, policy and SOPs
- Provide clinical checks on dispensed prescriptions; adhere to Trust Formulary and high-cost drug procedures
- Lead and evaluate pharmaceutical care and advise MDT members on therapeutic options
- Contribute to cancer service SOPs/policies and medicines management systems
- Monitor prescribing, identify medicines-related problems and implement interventions
- Manage therapeutic drug monitoring and dosing for identified agents
- Support clinical trials and research within cancer services
- Support cost containment and budget management for oncology/haematology
Key requirements
- Current post-diploma experience delivering specialist clinical services to a medical speciality
- Experience delivering a clinical pharmacy service to patients requiring SACT
- Experience in an aseptic unit (licensed or un-licensed)
- Experience with an electronic prescribing system
- Experience delivering chemotherapy services (inpatient and outpatient)
- Experience supervising and training pharmacists, technicians, nurses and doctors
