Overview
In this Consultant Stroke role you will lead stroke patient care across the pathway and drive hyperacute treatment, research, and education. You’ll work with a high-performing team delivering cutting-edge stroke services within a large NHS partnership. The position combines clinical leadership, on-call support via telemedicine, and opportunities to contribute to trials and teaching. A clear hook is the chance to shape hyperacute stroke care at scale while mentoring junior staff.

Responsibilities
- Lead assessment and management of stroke patients across the care pathway
- Deliver hyperacute treatments including thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy
- Manage intracerebral haemorrhage when needed
- Participate in clinical trials and hyperacute stroke research
- Provide on-call support with remote coverage via telemedicine
- Supervise and mentor junior doctors and medical students
- Teach within HYMS curriculum and supervise trainees
- Assume management or educational leadership roles with training and support
- Utilise additional SPA time for research, education, or service development
Key requirements
- Full GMC registration
- On the GMC Specialist Register (or expected inclusion within 6 months) for Stroke
- CCT/CESR in Acute Medicine or General Internal Medicine or Geriatric medicine or Neurology
- Dedicated stroke experience including thrombolysis at registrar level
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent
- Valid ALS certificate
