Overview

In this role you will manage an inpatient hospice unit and support patients with life-limiting illness within a multidisciplinary team. You will develop expertise in holistic care, symptom control, and advance care planning, while coordinating discharge and admissions. You’ll work across hospice sites, cover clinical duties during consultant absence, and contribute to education and governance initiatives. This is an opportunity to influence patient care in a compassionate, learning-centered environment.

Responsibilities

  • Inpatient management at Cynthia Spencer and Cransley Hospices
  • Provide senior clinical cover when consultants are away
  • Manage hospice waiting lists and bed prioritisation
  • Take referrals for hospice inpatient units in rotation
  • Support resident doctors during hospice rotation
  • Participate in 1st on-call rota for out-of-hours care
  • Engage in postgraduate education activities bi-monthly
  • Contribute to clinical governance and clinical audit programmes
  • Participate in yearly appraisal process

Key requirements

  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration
  • Minimum 4 years of postgraduate experience, 2 in general (internal) medicine or subspecialties
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to motivate and develop junior medical staff and MDT members
  • Ability to balance individual requirements with Directorate and Trust needs
  • Advanced communication skills
  • Teaching and training delivery (undergraduate/postgraduate)
  • Experience in clinical research and/or service evaluation
