We are inviting applications for a Specialty Doctor to join the Vascular Department. The post is ideally suited to fully registered doctors seeking to extend their existing experience of vascular surgical services, in an experienced and supportive department. The post-holder will be required to work across Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley District General Hospital. Previous experience in Vascular Surgery is essential.
Main duties of the job:
- Participate in the ward care of vascular and emergency surgery patients.
- Participate in the 1:9 on-call rota.
- Liaise with junior trainees to ensure appropriate pre-operative work-up including imaging.
- Attend regular operating sessions of the clinical team to assist with major surgery and develop skills of increasing complexity under the close supervision of the Consultant.
- Assist with regular outpatient clinics under the Consultant's guidance.
- Undertake administrative duties including the dictation of discharge summaries, operating notes, outpatient clinic letters and other relevant clinical correspondence.
- Perform duties in emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the Consultants.
- Contribute to the teaching of 3rd and final year medical students, and junior trainees.
About us:
Lancashire Teaching Hospitals is a major acute trust in the North West. We were established in 2005 and were the first trust in the country to be awarded 'teaching hospitals' status. In 2013 we became the regional vascular centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria. General surgical services are currently delivered by a unified department across the Royal Preston and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital sites. Emergency surgical patients are admitted to the Royal Preston Hospital. Outpatient clinics, day surgery and basic endoscopic procedures are carried out on both sites. The post-holder will be expected to work at both sites (Chorley and Preston) on a rotational basis.
Person Specification:
- Qualifications: Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice, MBBS or equivalent, FRCS or equivalent.
- Experience and Skills: Specific skills and experience in Vascular Surgery. Desirable: Trained educational supervisor, interest in Vascular Surgery as a specialty, demonstrated by attendance at appropriate courses, meetings & conferences, trained clinical supervisor.
- Research and Development: Evidence of interest in professional development e.g. through research and/or publications. Desirable: Peer reviewed publications - some on Vascular topics.
- Management: Evidence of clinical leadership, evidence of commitment to audit and improving clinical practice/service development.
- Personal: Effective communication skills, good organisation skills, works well within a multidisciplinary environment, resident within 30 minutes travel time to Chorley/Preston.
