Overview

In this temporary senior leadership role, you will shape medicines optimisation and ensure high standards of clinical governance, patient safety and regulatory compliance across a multi-site GP practice. You will lead the pharmacy and medicines management team, drive continuous improvement, and support outstanding patient care in collaboration with the Partners and senior leaders. This position offers potential for permanence and impact on strategic quality and safety initiatives. You will represent WellBN in NHS and PCN/ICB engagements and advance service improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the medicines optimisation strategy across all practice sites
  • Oversee prescribing quality, safety and cost-effectiveness
  • Develop and implement evidence-based prescribing systems
  • Lead medicines-related audits and improvement programmes
  • Monitor prescribing performance and identify improvement opportunities
  • Provide strategic leadership for clinical governance across the practice
  • Oversee patient safety, risk management and incident reporting
  • Promote learning culture and continuous improvement
  • Lead medicines-related CQC readiness and ongoing compliance
  • Coordinate quality assurance programmes across all sites
  • Develop and deliver annual medicines audit and quality improvement programme
  • Monitor quality indicators and service performance data
  • Use data to drive safety, quality and efficiency improvements
  • Support innovation and service redesign
  • Lead, develop and mentor the pharmacy team
  • Promote staff engagement, wellbeing and development
  • Support delivery of QOF and enhanced service requirements
  • Represent WellBN at PCN, ICB and NHS meetings
  • Build relationships with commissioners, regulators and partner organisations
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency and service improvement
  • Support achievement of contractual and organisational objectives

Key requirements

  • Current professional registration with the GPhC, GMC, NMC or another relevant body
  • Significant senior leadership experience within primary care or NHS services
  • Extensive knowledge of medicines optimisation and prescribing governance
  • Strong understanding of clinical governance, risk management and patient safety
  • Experience of leading quality improvement and audit programmes
  • Knowledge of CQC standards, NHS contractual requirements and regulatory frameworks
