In this role you drive psychological care and clinical governance for a rehabilitation service. You will lead assessment, intervention and care planning for designated patients, while supervising psychology staff and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. You contribute to service development, audit and research, ensuring evidence-based practice and timely referrals. The position offers flexible working patterns within a supportive, patient-centered setting that advances recovery goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead psychological care for designated wards and patients, including assessment, intervention, evaluation, risk management and care planning.
  • Work autonomously within professional and service guidelines, maintaining high standards of clinical governance and record keeping.
  • Supervise and support psychology staff, trainees and students, providing consultation, reflective practice, training and professional development.
  • Collaborate with patients, carers, multidisciplinary teams and external agencies to support person-centred care.
  • Contribute to service development, audit, research and evidence-based practice, including oversight of referrals, waiting lists, KPIs and psychological practice governance.

Key requirements:

  • Postgraduate qualification leading to HCPC registration and current HCPC registration as Psychologist.
  • Formal training in at least two therapeutic modalities.
  • Post-qualification experience and competencies relevant to a Principal Psychologist role.
  • Newly qualified psychologists or those not yet HCPC registered are not eligible.
  • Desirable: experience in forensic settings and/or with forensic adult populations with offending risk.
  • Collaborative approach with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Supervision and mentoring abilities.
  • Reflective practice.
  • Psychological assessment, intervention, evaluation.
  • Risk management.
  • Clinical governance and documentation.
