Overview

In this role you provide high-quality, evidence-based mental health assessments and care within an urgent, community-based pathway. You work closely with ambulance colleagues to deliver crisis care across West Essex, and support other teams as needed, including supervision of junior staff. You develop collaborative care plans guided by NICE guidance and deliver interventions tailored to individual needs, using coaching and digital tools. The position involves 24-hour activity in the West Essex area and collaboration with non-statutory and statutory services.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver blue-light crisis response in the community alongside the Ambulance Paramedic clinician
  • Conduct triage for under-18s and liaise with EWMHS for further assessment
  • Maintain accurate documentation in line with professional and Trust policies
  • Oversee and contribute to assessments, observation, and ongoing risk assessment
  • Attend and participate in multidisciplinary meetings (referrals, reviews)
  • Perform physical health checks and act on findings
  • Safe storage and management of PGD medicines; educate on medications and adherence
  • Provide supervision to junior staff as required by management
  • Conduct assessments and interventions within a 24-hour duty model in the West Essex area
  • Support non-statutory and statutory services during crises
  • Develop collaborative care plans under NICE guidance and deliver interventions
  • Coaching and use of assisted technology and online forums as appropriate

Key requirements

  • Registration in Mental Health Nursing OR Occupational Therapy OR Social Work
  • Proven experience in health, social care or community settings as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Desirable postgraduate qualification or willingness to pursue
  • Desirable ability to deliver CBT, psychosocial interventions, family interventions, and DBT approaches
  • Strong communication and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams
