A unique opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic senior clinical pharmacist with excellent communication, vision, organisational and leadership skills to join the Haematology and Oncology Pharmacy Team. The post holder will also form part of the clinical pharmacy services team, to ensure all chemotherapy prescriptions and adjunct treatments are clinically screened in accordance with national guidelines and best practice guidance.

The post holder will work as part of a dedicated pharmacy team to lead, provide and develop clinical pharmacy services to Haematology and Oncology. The post holder will also support colleagues in Haematology and Oncology in managing the team, liaise with service leads, departments and pharmacy to ensure that pharmacy services are tailored to meet the needs of our patients. This post provides a varied experience as well as flexible and challenging opportunities for personal and professional development in clinical, research, strategic and managerial skills. The successful applicant will be a team player with clinical experience, excellent communication skills, and attention to detail.

You will be required to work weekends and Bank Holidays on a rotational basis.

Main duties of the job:

  • Responsible for the provision of highly specialist professional, clinical and scientific information and advice to multidisciplinary healthcare staff, patients and carers regarding medicines use, to make clinical recommendations tailored to patients.
  • To clinically screen prescriptions for regimens prescribed ahead of supply or dispensing by Pharmacy Aseptics and/or the Trust Outpatient service.
  • To provide strategic oversight of service development and improvement initiatives, including the introduction of new processes, training plans, technologies, work streams and cost savings.
  • Performing or overseeing the monitoring and review of drug therapies for oncology and haematology patients, ensuring treatments are appropriate and comply with current guidance and Trust policies.
  • To line manage a small team ensuring colleagues are supported and are in a position to provide the best care, supporting their personal and professional development.
  • To support the development of non-medical prescribing within the oncology and haematology specialities.
  • Provide high level, complex pharmaceutical advice on specialist areas of practice to consultants, junior medical staff, general practitioners, nursing staff, pharmacy staff, other healthcare professionals and patients and carers.
  • Ensure medication errors are monitored, reported and managed in line with Trust process.
