Overview
In this role you will support the Histopathology service at Portsmouth Hospitals, rotating through core areas to ensure accurate tissue analysis and timely reporting. You will uphold quality while minimising costs, participate in method evaluation and research, and help deliver high-quality cellular pathology results. The role supports patient care by enabling reliable diagnoses through histology workflows and digital pathology. This is a collaborative, hands-on position within a large NHS trust that values staff wellbeing and professional development.

Responsibilities
- Participate in the Histopathology service with rotation across department areas
- Perform preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments
- Prepare and store high-cost reagents used in investigations
- Conduct manual and semi-automated tissue investigations including transfer and selective dissection
- Participate in method and instrument evaluation and in research and development
- Aim to maximise service quality while reducing costs
- Process and report time-sensitive Cellular Pathology samples
- Process and evaluate Histopathology samples
Key requirements
- Accredited BSc Biomedical Science or equivalent
- Current HCPC registration as Biomedical Scientist
- Previous experience in a histopathology laboratory
- Computer literacy with data handling
- Experience in specimen dissection and renal/liver/lung biopsy preparation
- Experience with quality management and audits
- Knowledge of DATIX and iPassport
- Experience with digital pathology and service improvement
- Evidence of CPD
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Ability to work independently with initiative
- Strong organizational skills
