Consultant Dermatologist in Guildford

Join a forward-thinking dermatology service delivering high-quality care closer to patients' homes. We are seeking an enthusiastic Consultant Dermatologist to become part of our established multidisciplinary team of 10 clinicians, providing expert care across adult and paediatric dermatology, skin cancer pathways, minor surgery and specialist dermatology services. You will work closely with local NHS Trusts and participate in relevant MDTs, helping to provide seamless, integrated patient care.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape and develop a growing service while maintaining an active clinical role. Alongside delivering consultant-led clinics, you will contribute to teaching and supervision, supporting GPwERs, GPwSIs, trainees and medical students within a supportive learning environment. You will also have opportunities to lead service development, quality improvement and clinical audit activities.

We welcome applicants who are GMC Specialist Registered in Dermatology, with experience in both adult and paediatric dermatology, excellent clinical judgement and a passion for patient-centred care. The role offers a flexible job plan with no on-call commitments. Clinics are delivered across our outpatient sites, with working patterns and sessional commitments agreed as part of job planning. Potential working days may span Monday to Saturday.

Main duties of the job

As a Consultant Dermatologist, you will play a key role in delivering consultant-led dermatology services to NHS patients within busy clinics set at Outpatient sites within the communities we serve. You will assess and manage a broad range of adult and paediatric dermatological conditions, undertake skin lesion assessment and minor surgical procedures, contribute to skin cancer pathways and participate in MDT discussions with local NHS Trust colleagues. You will deliver clinics across our outpatient sites and work as part of an established multidisciplinary dermatology team.

You will also support the development of future clinicians through the supervision of GPs with Extended Roles (GPwERs), GPs with Specialist Interests (GPwSIs), trainees and medical students. The role offers opportunities to contribute to teaching, clinical audit, quality improvement and service development, helping to shape the future delivery of community dermatology services.

We are seeking a GMC Specialist Registered Dermatologist with broad experience across both adult and paediatric dermatology. You'll be an experienced clinician with excellent diagnostic and decision-making skills, a commitment to evidence-based practice and a patient-centred approach to care.

Experience

Essential

• Proven previous experience of working within the NHS in a similar role.
• Experience in using databases, Word and Excel.
• Wide and in-depth training in Dermatology/General Medicine.
• Demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Dermatology.
• Ability to offer expert clinical opinions on a range of problems within the specialty.
• Established record in Paediatric Dermatology.
• Established record in Dermatology Education.
• Experience in managing patients with skin disease in the community and/or secondary care settings.
• Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff.
• Track record of clinical governance, audit, management and IT skills.
• Proven track record in innovation, service improvement and system redesign.
• Experience in tele-dermatology.

Qualifications

Essential

• MBChP, MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
• FRCP or MRCP qualification.
• CCT (or equivalent for non-UK applicants of equivalent status), or be accredited (or equivalent), and be on the GMC Specialist Register in Dermatology with a license to practice, at the time of taking up the consultant appointment. Alternatively, candidates can be within 6 months of their CCT at interview.
• Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
• Suitable previous Dermatology experience of adults and children.
