Speciality doctor for Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit and Crisis Team in Gloucester

We are excited to be able to offer this opportunity for a Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry to join our compassionate and committed PICU and Crisis teams. The post has become available following the previous post-holder returning to training at ST4. This role is offered on a permanent basis. The hours are full-time, 40 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

• PICU (3 days a week): The specialty Doctor will provide senior Psychiatric input to the MDT, supporting the Consultant with reviewing patients and developing treatment plans, and in providing written and verbal evidence to Tribunals (under supervision). The unit works exclusively with patients under the MHA.
• Crisis team (2 days a week): Work with the MDT to provide excellent care to patients under the Stroud and Gloucester Crisis Teams. Work with other acute in-patient mental health services in Gloucestershire and with local community teams. Providing specialist psychiatric assessment and treatment to patients in Stroud and Gloucester CRHTTs.

Qualifications and Training

• Essential: Basic Medical Qualification GMC registered. Minimum of 4 years post-graduate experience, with at least 2 years of experience working in psychiatry.
• Desirable: MRCPsych or equivalent. S12 approval or eligibility for approval.

Work Experience

• Essential: Experience in acute psychiatry.
• Desirable: Placements in NHS Inpatient and Crisis Teams during post-graduate training.

Specialist Knowledge and Skills

• Essential: Excellent knowledge in specialty. Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty under supervision. Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others. Able to meet responsibilities under MHA and MCA.
• Desirable: Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service. Management Skills, Audit, Research. Business skills.

Personal Skills and Qualities

• Essential: Effective working with the Multidisciplinary team. Good interpersonal skills. Commitment to teaching and training others.
• Desirable: Training in work-based placed assessments.

Academic Skills and Lifelong Learning

• Essential: Able to use and appraise clinical Evidence. Has actively participated in clinical audit and quality improvement programs.
• Desirable: Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement e.g. awards, prizes, presentations, publications. Has led clinical audits leading to service change or improved outcomes to patients.

Information Technology Skills and Experience

• Essential: Basic computer skills, including ability to use electronic patient records, e-mail and Internet.
• Desirable: Experience in data collection and evaluation.

Other Relevant Factors

• Essential: Commitment to high quality service. Full driving license or able to make own transport arrangements.
• Desirable: Available to start as soon as possible.
