Liaison Psychiatry Clinical Psychologist in Exeter

This Band 8a post offers an exciting opportunity to help shape psychological services within urgent care pathways. You will provide expert assessment, formulation, and intervention for individuals presenting with complex psychological needs, and contribute to team development, training, and supervision.

We are looking for a Band 8a Clinical Psychologist to join the expanding Liaison Psychiatry service based at Wonford House in Exeter. The post is full time and would require flexibility as the role works both closely alongside the Liaison Psychiatry team as well as Acute Colleagues within the Royal Devon University Hospital, Eastern. The post will be based in Exeter and we are able to offer a relocation package for the right candidate to join the team.

Main duties of the job

• The principal purpose of the job is to improve the psychological health & wellbeing of people within the post holder's specialist field of practice.
• A key responsibility of this role will be providing psychological input into the specific service areas of development relating to Integrated Psychological Medicine at the RDUH Hospital.
• At an operational level this will ensure the Psychology and Psychological Therapies Service improves access to psychological therapies, is an integrated part of all relevant clinical pathways, delivers high clinical standards, makes best use of its scarce resources and develops evidence-based practice that meets needs and choices of people using the service.
• The Postholder will be expected to run and deliver a number of psychologically informed training programmes for staff in the hospital and liaison service.
• The post holder will work collaboratively to ensure a whole systems integrated approach to service delivery and development.
• A substantial part of this role will be to provide a qualified specialist psychological input to people using the service, specialist psychological assessment and if applicable therapeutic intervention as well as offering advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to Liaison Psychiatry and medical service MDT colleagues and carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the services policies and procedures.

Job responsibilities

• Deliver specialist psychological assessments and interventions for adults referred to Liaison Psychiatry.
• Formulate and implement evidence-based treatment plans.

Person Specification

Experience

• Essential: Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community and inpatient settings.
• Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
• Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
• Experience in undertaking leadership roles within clinical psychology/psychological therapy services in the NHS and in contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of strategies and clinical policies in multi-disciplinary, multi-agency contexts.
• Desirable: Project management skills/experience. Experience of working in the urgent care pathway (CRHTT/Liaison/Inpatient settings).

Knowledge and skills

• Essential: Broad knowledge of specialist services and of the services in the NHS where clinical health psychology is commonly applied.
• Extensive knowledge of the skills, practice and knowledge base of Clinical Psychology and Psychological Therapies.
• Knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex data analysis.
• A good knowledge of and ability to work with current NHS drivers in mental health including the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies agenda.
• Strong leadership qualities, resilience and ability to handle ambiguity and uncertainty.
• Excellent verbal, nonverbal and written communication skills.
• Desirable: Knowledge of the policy context of specialist psychological services within the organisation and of clinical leadership arrangements in this setting. Ability to integrate and manipulate complex data, interpret this information and write comprehensive reports.

Qualifications

• Essential: Qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist (D.Clin.Psychol. or equivalent), eligible for Chartered Clinical Psychologist Status in the British Psychological Society or Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology as accredited by the HPC (or equivalent qualifications as assessed by the HPC) or Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology (or equivalent as assessed by the HPC) or Equivalent Qualification and Experience in another area of therapy, i.e., Psychotherapy, Arts Therapies with accreditation with relevant regulatory body. Registration with HCPC/UKCP/Other Specialist regulatory body.
• Desirable: Further training or equivalent experience in either Clinical Health Psychology and/or Adult Psychological Therapies. Further training or experience in delivering training programmes. Further training in at least one psychological therapy.
