Consultant Psychiatrist in Eating Disorders Psychiatry in Exeter

We are looking for an enthusiastic and service development driven Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Devon Partnership Trust's Community Eating Disorders Service (CEDS) covering Exeter and wider Devon. The service has grown steadily since its successful pilot in 2016 and full commissioning in 2018. It is now fully established and provides a full range of therapeutic interventions alongside a clearly commissioned physical health monitoring service for adults with moderate to severe eating disorders registered with GPs across Devon.

We have a clear and structured MDT with extensive psychology, dietetic, physical health and FREED staffing. The FREED early intervention model is in place across Devon. We provide services to adults and support for transitions from CAMHS from age 17 onward. We have GP led physical health hubs in North Devon, Exeter and Torbay, supporting high risk patients and close working relationships with the Haldon Specialist Eating Disorder Unit (SEDU), the newly established Eating Disorder Outreach Team (EDOT) for assertive and intense home based interventions and our Acute Trusts and CAMHS teams.

The MDT includes: Consultant Psychiatrist, Associate Specialist, GP lead, senior physical health clinicians, HCAs, Service Manager, Clinical Lead, psychologists, therapists, dietitians, mental health practitioners, FREED practitioners, peer support and administrators.

Main duties of the job include a well-resourced eight PAs (6 DCC and 2 SPA) with supportive supervision and CPD arrangements. On call rota one in sixteen with three percent supplement. Exeter is a compact and vibrant city with quick access to the coast, Dartmoor National Park and plenty of riverside routes giving residents easy opportunities for walking, cycling and outdoor activities straight from the city. It has a strong choice of high performing secondary schools and a well regarded university along with a mix of independent shops, cafes and major retailers in the city centre. Transport links are excellent with multiple railway stations, direct services to London and nearby M5 motorway access making it an easy place for commuting or travel.

Job responsibilities include the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and managers, awareness of NHS management and funding arrangements, excellent communication skills, evidence of ability to exercise leadership in a multi-disciplinary team, and a commitment to continuing professional development.

Essential qualifications include Full Registration with the General Medical Council, Approved Clinician status at the point of taking up post, and eligibility for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview. Desirable qualifications include MRC Psych and other professional qualifications (e.g., CBT, PSI, CAT).

Experience required includes prior experience working in a Community/Inpatient/Eating Disorder/Psychotherapy Mental Health Team, experience of psychiatric practice in a range of settings, especially the community, and experience of audit and an understanding of the principles.
