Overview

In this Band 7 role you will provide senior clinical leadership within the Learning Disabilities MDTs, shaping a high‑quality psychology service across Devon. You will deliver specialist assessments, formulations and interventions while supporting staff, trainees and carers. You’ll work autonomously within guidelines and drive governance and service development. This position offers involvement in research activity and a strong, collaborative culture centred on coproduction and recovery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide psychological therapies and specialist formulations for people with learning disabilities and their networks
  • Offer clinical leadership, supervision and coordination for staff, trainees and volunteers
  • Consult and advise professionals and carers to inform formulations and treatment plans
  • Governance of psychological practice within the locality and adherence to professional standards
  • Receive regular professional supervision and contribute to service development and policy
  • Supervise Assistant Psychologists/Trainee Clinical Psychologists as required
  • Engage in service‑relevant research and organise R&D activities
  • Maintain accurate records and manage information flow in line with Trust policies
  • Support learners and contribute to training and capacity building
  • Deliver services autonomously within clinical guidelines and respond to service needs

Key requirements

  • Doctorate/Masters level or equivalent qualification in clinical/counselling
  • Eligible for HCPC registration
  • Knowledge of Mental Health and Mental Capacity Act implications for people with learning disabilities
  • Experience of psychological assessment and treatment across settings
  • Experience in teaching, supervision and training
  • Skills in risk assessment and management
  • Proficient communication of complex information to diverse audiences
  • IT skills for record keeping and service delivery
  • Strong communication and written skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a network of teams
  • Tolerance of ambiguity and resilience in challenging contexts
  • Psychological assessments and formulations
  • Specialised psychological therapies (two or more)
  • Risk assessment and risk management
